João Martins is one of the newest members of the COMPASS research group and his background is a BSc degree in Biotechnology from University of Aveiro, Portugal. During his graduation research project, he studied the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates by mixed microbial cultures. Currently he is a master student in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology and his work focuses on developing compartmentalized microsystems to study cellular interaction and developing in vitro microtissues.
His research areas include biomaterials, nanotechnology and tissue engineering.
As a sports enthusiast, during his free time he enjoys swimming and playing football and basketball with friends.
