Pedro started his educational background in 2015 when pursuing a BSc in Biotechnology at University of Aveiro. His graduation research focused on the use of cucurbiturils to modify novel CO-releasing molecules in drug delivery. Later on, he joined the COMPASS group where he completed his Master’s degree in Clinical Biochemistry, by developing nanomicelles for augmenting stem cell osteodifferentiation upon delivery of phytotherapeutics. Afterwards, Pedro was awarded a FCT scholarship for pursuing his PhD under the supervision of COMPASS group leader Prof. João Mano and Prof. Lecommandoux of the University of Bordeaux. His main aim is to develop new and valuable nanomedicine-based therapeutic modalities by exploiting emerging trends in polymer chemistry, nanotechnology and promising nature-derived bioactive molecules. His areas of research interest include drug delivery/development, nanobiotechnology and cell engineering with a focus on regenerative medicine and treating skeletal/cancer disorders.
