Sofia Xavier Gomes holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Molecular Biotechnology and Bioengineering from the University of Aveiro. During her master’s thesis, she developed an interest in biomaterials and 3D bioprinting, gaining experience in customized fetal matrices production for regenerative purposes and in 3D in vitro skin models. She later pursued a postgraduate degree in Clinical Research, where she focused on clinical trial management, regulatory science, and the application of artificial intelligence in patient recruitment.
She is currently a Research Fellow in the COMPASS research group, working on the development of a microfluidic ATPS system to produce ribbon-shaped membranes.
Beyond her research, she enjoys activities like walking, playing tennis and running. But also relaxing by going to the cinema, painting, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
