Maria Carolina Lobo graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Porto in 2021. After that, in 2023 she obtained her master’s degree in Quality Control with scientific area in Drug Substances and Medicinal Plants at the same university. During her master’s degree she performed a screening of flavonoids to determine scaffold structures that could be used for the development of new effective molecules for the treatment of obesity.
Currently, Carolina is a PhD student at the startup company METATISSUE and her research project focuses on the development of a novel dynamic microphysiological system using human-protein based biomaterials to replicate liver tissue and which enables the assessment of hepatotoxicity caused by drugs.
In her free time, Carolina enjoys practice ballet, which is one of her passions, cook and spend time with her family and friends.
