Fátima Brandão holds a BSc in Biology (2006) and an MSc in Applied Biology (2009), both from the University of Aveiro, with a focus on toxicology and ecotoxicology. In July 2025, she completed a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at ICBAS, University of Porto, investigating the inhalation toxicity of nanomaterials and contributing to improved frameworks for identifying the hazards of nanomaterials and assessing their risks.
She is a toxicology, nanotoxicology and ecotoxicology researcher with a strong interdisciplinary background that bridges regulatory science and translational research. Fátima has gained diverse experience in both academia and industry. She has participated in multiple interdisciplinary research projects, advancing her proficiency in genotoxicity testing, human and aquatic toxicology, and sustainable chemical alternatives. Working as a toxicologist at Bioceramed and Hydrumedical, she contributed to the biological evaluation of medical devices in compliance with international regulatory standards. This role strengthened her understanding of regulatory toxicology, medical device safety and applied research methodologies.
Fátima is currently a junior researcher at the COMPASS Research Group (CICECO) at the University of Aveiro, contributing to the ORTHO-ALLO-UNION project (ref. 101137464; HORIZON-HLTH-2023-TOOL-05). In this role, she is developing organ-on-chip models to support the creation of advanced therapies for bone regeneration.
In her free time, she enjoys nature walks, caring for plants, creative upcycling projects and exploring webinars, podcasts and tutorials — activities that nurture both curiosity and creativity.
