Margarida graduated in Biotechnology at the University of Aveiro (UA). In 2019 she received her master degree in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology from the same institution. To get her master degree she did an internship at The Navigator company, namely in the Forest and Paper Research Institute (RAIZ). There, she was responsible for starting up a new Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyser and also for studying the TOC/COD (chemical oxygen demand) ratio for wastewater samples from the Pulp and Paper Industry.
Previously, her final bachelor project was conducted at NanoLAB (UA) where she worked with magnetic nanoparticles prepared from biopolymers of marine origin, to remove drugs from the water.
Margarida loves to understand what is around her to help solving problems and challenge herself, thus her passion for science. Currently, she is a research fellow at the compass group working on the chemical modification of marine origin biopolymers, in order to develop biomaterials with adhesive properties for biomedical applications.
Outside of work, Margarida loves listening to music, hanging out with family and friends, running and travelling.
