Maria Mendes got her Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, with specialization in Biomedical Instrumentation and Biomaterials, at the University of Coimbra, in 2017. During her master’s dissertation, she focused on mutual interaction between sterilization methods and cell behaviour onto scaffolds to be applied in alveolar bone regeneration, on ICBR (Coimbra). Afterwards, she worked on a Research Project at 3B’s Research Group (University of Minho) on the development of an antibacterial film to be applied on hospital surfaces. Currently, she is working on the development of a new generation micropatterned 3D bioscaffolds for bone repair using magnetic-field guidance of surface-functionalized magnetic particles. Outside of the laboratory, Maria enjoys traveling, dancing, and spending time with family and friends.
