Vítor Gaspar received his PhD in Biochemistry (2015) from the University of Beira Interior in collaboration with the Centre of Molecular Biophysics of University of Orleans (France). During his PhD, he focused on the development of nanocarriers for drug/gene delivery and on the bioengineering of microtissue models for preclinical screening. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro and a researcher at the COMPASS Research Group, integrated in CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, Associate Laboratory of the University of Aveiro. His research focuses on spearheading advanced biomanufacturing technologies to process cell surfaces for generating biologically programmable human living materials for diverse biomedical applications. He is also exploring the precision chemical modification of ECM-biomimetic, as well as tissue-derived biomaterials for bottom-up engineering of organotypic in vitro models, and is actively involved in the development of new biomaterial-based platforms for genetic editing of human cells. He is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and sparking scientific curiosity in undergraduate and graduate students. In his free time, he likes to be with family, friends, travelling, and enjoys everything related to new technologies.
